The introduction of a resolution in the House of Representatives, supporting Kosova’s integration into NATO by American congressmen Keith Self, Ritchie Torres, and Mike Lawler, is of special importance for the Republic of Kosova. The resolution recognizes Kosova’s achievements and argues that its membership in NATO would help stabilize the Balkans.
The approval of this resolution in Congress follows a defined procedure. After passing in the House of Representatives, it must also be introduced and approved by the U.S. Senate to be recorded as a joint decision of the U.S. Congress.
It should be noted that the resolution is not a binding law, but it has a positive political effect because it shows that in America there is support for Kosova from both major parties. It strengthens Kosova’s position in the international arena and increases diplomatic pressure on NATO countries that have not yet recognized Kosova’s independence to do so.
At the same time, it influences the State Department and the U.S. administration to orient their foreign policy in favor of Kosova, considering it a strategic American interest.
This resolution does not oblige NATO to take concrete action in this direction; however, it makes clear to member states, as well as to Kosova’s adversaries, the American interest in Kosova.
Kosova’s membership in NATO is a long-term process that requires meeting many preconditions, some of which do not depend on Kosova. Nevertheless, Kosova must fulfill its own responsibilities in this direction, where the first phase is joining NATO’s Partnership for Peace.
This resolution also demonstrates the continued and successful engagement of individuals and organizations from the Albanian-American community in the interest of Kosova and the Albanian nation, especially the community in Dallas and New York.
Congressman Keith Self, along with several other members of Congress, is continuing the historic role of their predecessors in the U.S. Congress, such as DioGuardi, Dole, Lantos, McCain, Biden, Engel, Gilman, Hyde, and others.
Efforts by the backward Serbian regime to operate in the U.S., directly and through the Serbian-American community, are failing day by day, despite the investment of millions of dollars. The reason is simple: their cause is unjust, aggressive, anti-Western, and anti-human.
A primary existential duty of Kosova’s governance, alongside the democratic and economic development of the state, is strengthening the rule of law, professionalism of the army, and political stability. Kosova’s pro-American orientation must never be questioned, under any circumstances. Without America, there is no Kosova.
Last year’s masquerade by Kosova’s opposition, with the blocking of the creation of state institutions after democratic elections—especially the recent boycott of the presidential election—is having a very negative impact on the international image of the Republic of Kosova.
The majority population of Kosova, although tired and disappointed by repeated unnecessary elections, must mobilize once again and, through their vote, punish the obstructors of the state—the opposition of Kosova— who have placed personal and party interests above state and national interests.
