Under the leadership of legendary national activists Joe DioGuardi and
Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, the Albanian American Civic League participated
in the annual Former Members of Congress (FMC) Statesmanship Awards
Celebration in Washington, DC, where former Members meet with current
members, share experiences, and provide advice to new senators and
congressmen.
Joining us were members of the International Advisory Committee to the
Civic League based in Toronto, Canada, and Germany.
On this bipartisan occasion, the FMC honored US Senators Cory Booker
(Democrat) and Todd Young (Republican), as well as US Congressmen Ed
Case (Democrat) and Young Kim (Republican).
It was inspiring to listen to
current perspectives about statesmanship and bipartisanship from the
leaders of both political parties.
Of particular importance for the Civic League were the special meetings
with US senators and congressmen in their offices before and after the
FMC event on the evening of May 20, including Senator Cory Booker,
Congressman Mike Lawler, and Congressman George Latimer’s senior
staff.
The primary topics of all of our meetings in Washington were
strengthening and protecting the country of Kosova, deeper cooperation
with the American Congress and State Department, as well as confronting
Serbian aggression against Kosova and destabilization of the region.
The work of the Albanian American Civic League in Washington continues
with professionalism and dedication.
