Asociacioni i Gazetarëve të Shqipërisë shpreh shqetësim të thellë lidhur me deklaratat e Kryeministrit Edi Rama mbi Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH), të bëra më 16 janar, ku televizioni publik u cilësua si “dështim” dhe u hodhën në tavolinë opsione ekstreme si mbyllja, privatizimi apo partneriteti.

AGSH vlerëson se retorika politike që stigmatizon median publike dhe sugjeron zgjidhje drastike, pa një analizë të thelluar dhe pa garanci për pavarësinë editoriale, cenon parimet themelore të shërbimit publik mediatik dhe standardet evropiane për lirinë e medias.

Televizioni publik nuk është thjesht një ndërmarrje financiare, por një institucion i interesit publik që duhet të garantojë informim të paanshëm, kulturë, edukim dhe akses të barabartë për qytetarët.

Është e papranueshme që përgjegjësia për dështimet strukturore të RTSH-së t’i faturohet vetëm institucionit, duke anashkaluar faktin se për vite me radhë ndërhyrjet politike, emërimet e kontestuara, mungesa e transparencës dhe paqëndrueshmëria financiare edhe përmes abuzimit të të emëruarve politikë kanë ndikuar drejtpërdrejt në funksionimin e tij.

Refuzimi i financimit publik si mjet presioni politik përbën një rrezik serioz për pavarësinë e medias publike.

AGSH thekson se çdo reformë e RTSH-së duhet të ndërtohet mbi dialog të gjerë me gazetarët, shoqërinë civile dhe ekspertët e medias, duke respektuar praktikat më të mira evropiane dhe rekomandimet e organizatave ndërkombëtare.

Opsionet si mbyllja apo privatizimi i një transmetuesi publik janë masa ekstreme që do të dëmtonin rëndë pluralizmin mediatik dhe të drejtën e publikut për informim.

Asociacioni I Gazetarëve të Shqipërisë për vite me radhë ka bërë thirrje për reforma të thella në RTSH, që lidhen kryesisht me zgjedhjen e anëtarëve të Këshillit Drejtues e më pas me Drejtorin e Përgjithshëm, si dhe një reformë e brendshme strukturore.

The Association of Journalists of Albania expresses deep concern regarding the statements made by Prime Minister Edi Rama on 16 January about the Albanian public broadcaster, RTSH, in which it was described as a “successful failure” and where extreme options such as closure, privatization, or partnership were put on the table.

AJA considers that political rhetoric which stigmatizes the public media and suggests drastic solutions, without in-depth analysis and without guarantees for editorial independence, undermines the fundamental principles of public service media and European standards on media freedom. Public television is not merely a financial enterprise, but an institution of public interest that must ensure impartial information, culture, education, and equal access for citizens.

It is unacceptable that responsibility for the structural failures of RTSH is placed solely on the institution itself, while ignoring the fact that for years political interference, contested appointments, lack of transparency, and financial instability have directly affected its functioning. Refusing public funding as a means of political pressure constitutes a serious risk to the independence of public media.

AJA emphasizes that any reform of RTSH must be built on broad dialogue with journalists, civil society, and media experts, while respecting best European practices and the recommendations of international organizations. Options such as closing or privatizing a public broadcaster are extreme measures that would severely harm media pluralism and the public’s right to information.

The Association of Journalists of Albania calls on the government to stop delegitimizing language toward the media, to guarantee stable and independent funding for RTSH, and to seriously engage in a genuine, transparent, and depoliticized reform, in the interest of the public and of democracy in the country.
